Frequently Asked Questions

We grow our produce indoors in controlled, hydroponic greenhouses, where optimal growing conditions ensure fresh, nutritious food year-round. This approach uses significantly less water and space than traditional farming, while reducing waste and minimizing emissions.

Since our produce is grown hydroponically without soil, it does not meet the USDA’s current definition of organic.

Yes, all our produce is non-GMO.

All of our leafy greens are completely pesticide-free. The only exception is our Hawaii-grown tomatoes, which are grown in unique island conditions.

Our produce is available at most major grocery stores throughout the Hawaiian Islands and select locations in the continental U.S. Check out our store locator to find the retailer nearest you.

We recommend rinsing our produce just before serving. To preserve freshness, extend shelf life, and reduce water use, we do not pre-wash it at our farms.

To maintain peak freshness, we recommend storing leafy greens in their original packaging in your refrigerator’s crisper drawer. Tomatoes are best kept in their original packaging, in a cool, shaded spot on your kitchen counter.

We believe in packaging that's better for the environment. Our retail leafy greens come in eco-friendly, moisture-resistant paperboard that's easy to recycle. While our tomatoes and family-size greens are still in plastic, we're actively working toward more sustainable options across all our products.

By switching from plastic clamshells to paperboard trays, we have reduced plastic use in our packaging by 90%. Our paperboard trays are made with 91% responsibly-sourced, bio-based materials and are recyclable throughout most of North America.

Yes, our paperboard packaging keeps your lettuce just as fresh as traditional plastic clamshells, while reducing plastic consumption.

Our paperboard tray is recyclable in most North American curbside programs once broken down (we make it easy). Since recycling rules vary, we recommend checking local guidelines. Many retailers also offer plastic film recycling drop-offs. For more info, visit Earth911 or the RecycleCoach app for local instructions.

Paper is renewable, recyclable, and bio-based, making it a more sustainable choice than plastic, which is derived from fossil fuels and harms the environment. We’ve reduced plastic consumption to honor our commitment to protecting the planet.

Our produce is grown at two locations: on the Hawaiian Island of Lāna'i and our largest farm in Ontario, Canada.

Being part of the change means supporting the communities where we live and work. Through our Community Impact Volunteering Program (CIVP), team members are encouraged to get involved and give back. We also partner with local food banks to donate surplus produce - providing fresh food to those in need while reducing food waste.
